Oh well, if it's only a third of the human race...

.... Ok, but why not just throw yourself into crafts work trying to figure out just what can actually kill you without severe blast damage to the surrounding populace.
Matt Knab
Actually, all his "recent" experiments with creating empowered individuals/creatures was exactly that. Discovering Alice was a happy accident.
Xylas_Incarnum
So he's going for the big boom that's quite likely to take him out because he's too bored to continue finding another way?
Matt Knab
He's perfectly happy to believe that there IS no other way, now that a solution has fallen into his lap. He couldn't care less about the collateral damage involved.
Xylas_Incarnum
More or less the same thing.

Why not go to empty desert or somewhere with it? or some lonely island surrounded by nothing but sea for miles? :)
Matt Knab
A remote island might do it...IF sacrificing Alice was on the table.
Jarvi
He could wait with that whole "I wanna kill myself" till she gets tired of life as well :p
Have to wonder what the tipping point would have been for him? Like O.O 'That's It I don't want to be on this planet anymore.'
Matt Knab
Hrm, I don't know that I ever say specifically why in the script (which seems a glaring omission on my part in retrospect). The original idea was that he was so disgusted by the development of medieval warfare, with getting caught up in the crusades being the "last straw". That would mean he's only been seeking death for the last 1000 years of his 40k lifespan, so I'm not sure if that fits the timeline I want.
Proxy170
Well...wouldn't be the first time someone wiped out a portion of humanity, right? Wasn't that the story behind the flood/Noah's arc?
Matt Knab
Sure, but avoiding a mass extinction event is definitely one of the main goals here. :)

How interesting that he says "a third."
First Trumpet of Revelation: "The 1st sounded, and there came hail and fire, mixed with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the earth was burned up, and a third of the trees were burned up, and all the green grass was burned up."

Second Trumpet of Revelation: The 2nd angel sounded, and something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea; and a third of the sea became blood, and a third of the creatures which were in the sea and had souls, died; and a third of the ships were destroyed."

Third Trumpet: "The name of the star is called Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood, and many men died from the waters, because they were made bitter."

Matt Knab
I honestly didn't have that section in mind. I mostly chose a third just because the number three is so common in religious stories and folktales that it seemed to fit.
